Up for sale is a nice Guild D44 from 1969, built in Hoboken, New Jersey. Serial number AC 515. The guitar is in Fair to Good Condition. I would rate the cosmetics in Fair Condition, but the action and playability is in Good Condition. I bought this guitar from a local Luthier, who has done all kinds of repairs. He restored this vintage dreadnought, so it is sounding, and playing good. All the major expenses that it would cost you to repair/restore a vintage guild, have been taken care of. It has had a recent neck reset, so the neck angle is very good with a straight edge ruler, resting on top of the bridge, and meeting up at the base of the saddle. The saddle is bone, and is the vintage style, "cut through/long saddle" design. The saddle sits very tall, with all kinds of room for future adjustments, or to dial it into your preferred set up. The fretboard and metal frets have been replaced, and show almost no wear signs. The nut width is a little over 1 11/16s, but not a full 1 3/4 nut width. I have large, chubby fingers, and I find it very comfortable to play, and finger chords easily, without accidently muting notes. The scale length is 25 5/8s inches from nut to saddle. The vintage tuners have been replace with a set of chrome, open gear, Wilkinson brand. The body binding is in good condition. There is a spot on the back binding that has a slight visible seperation, but it is not coming unglued, and should not be a problem. The Sitka Spruce top is heavily weather checked, but has no major cracks. There is a visible weather check, or humidity split along the center seam, visible on each side of the bridge. There is also another spot in the lower bout that looks like a weather check or a crack. It is very hard to tell. The top has no major dings, dents, scratches, etc. that really jump out as eye sores, but there are visible blemishes throughout the guitar. There is a small, pickguard shrinkage crack, between the pickguard and the bridge. I have pointed this out in one of my pictures with a blue arrow. The bridge is the vintage style "cloud bridge" Guild design, and it is securely glued down. The sides and back wood are solid pearwood. This is a wood of choice for many foreign, European guitar builders, but it is rarely used on USA built guilds. I would compare the look and sound to be most like Mahogany, and it has some Maple characteristics as well. The sound is loud and clear. It is very punchy, and very responsive. It has the brightness you find in maple guitars, with the bass quality of a mahogany guitar. It really does balance out well. You can drive this guitar really hard with an aggressive pick strum, and it holds it's tone very well, without getting a muddy or overdriven sound. I am a fingerstyle player, and enjoy playing this D44. It is very versatile for different playing styles. I would compare it most to a Guild D40, Martin D18, and a Gibson J45 mahogany. I have Guild d15, all Mahogany, here that is also for sale, and this D44 sounds alot like the D15, D25, and D35, if you are looking for a guild to compare it too. The back and side pearwood has had a few cracks repaired. Most notably on the back. The guitar's nitro finish has also been sanded down in many spots, while the repairs were made. Looking inside the soundhole, it looks that two of the scalloped, back braces, have been replaced.
Here is your chance to own a vintage guitar at a very reasonable price. I have this D44 and a couple of other very affordable, entry level guilds, coming up for sale. I normally only offer, high end, and rare guilds for sale. But I want to help some new people be able to get into the guild brand, and buy their first guild, at reasonable price points. I have A D15, D25, D40, DV6, DV52, and a M40 that will fit into this same price range. So look for those guilds to be listed soon. You can message me with any questions you have, or if you need additional pictures or measurements, please just ask. This guitar comes with a brand new case, that cost 100 bucks, found on Amazon.
The only guitars i buy, sell, and collect are guild acoustics. I search everyday for the best, and most rare of guilds to collect, or offer up for sale. I have over twenty years of hands on experience with hundreds of guild guitars. I have perfect feedback on all my guitar deals, so buy with confidence. I prefer to make deals privately, or through my website, guildacoustics one word. I sell my guitars "as is" with no returns, unless the guitar arrives damaged, or I have grossly misrepresented the guitar's condition, in my description and pictures. Please message me if you are interested and want to make an offer. I have many more guilds for sale, and I am adding more, used and vintage guilds, weekly, to my inventory. Please check back with me soon to see what gems i have found. Thanks for looking!!
