When the Jazz age hit in the early 20's Conn quickly responded with a jazz trumpet, the Opera Grand 24B.
This is what Conn said about the Opera Grand when it was introduced:
"This model is built with a small bore and is known as the 24B. It was built especially for "jazz" or ball-room orchestras, and has proven its value for this character of music most successfully. It possesses a stinging, yet musical quality of tone and unusual carrying power. From the time this trumpet was placed on the market, it met with success and swept all other "jazz" behind it. It is extremely easy playing and is particularly noted for this feature. We do not recommend the Opera Grand for symphonic or concert engagements."
This Opera Grand #247142 was disassembled and hydrostatically cleaned. It was reassemblled with all new felts, springs and water key pads and the valves were properly adjusted. The 24B comes with the A/Bb tuning rod (photo 3). As you can see from the last photo all the slides are free and slide barrels look almost like new. As you can also see in the last photo the valve plating looks exceptionally good too. The compression of the valves on this 24B tested out very good. Cosmetically the silver is nearly perfect with just a few scuffs and scratches here and there. There are no dents and just a few dings. There are signs in a few spots of dings having been removed in the past. This horn having the "peashooter" bore of .438" is excellent for jazz and would be a great addition to any collection.
Comes with a mouthpiece and the wooden case shown in the photos. The case is in poor condition though it will protect the horn well.
These professional trumpet players chose to play Conn horns: Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Bix Beiderbech, Bunny Berrigan, Herbert Ckarke, Roy Eldridge, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen and Woody Shaw.
