Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass V

First introduced in 1960, the Jazz Bass has withstood the test of time to become one of the most played and recorded instruments in modern music history. The Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass V celebrates this heritage in an incredibly affordable instrument that aspiring musicians will appreciate. With its sleekly contoured offset body and fast-action maple neck, this J Bass is incredibly comfortable to play and lets you pull off extremely tight runs and grooves with ease. Of course, it also delivers the legendary punchy bass sound you can only get from a pair of single-coil J Bass pickups.

The ubiquitous 5-string

As roundwound strings and brighter bass sounds became popular in the 1970s, a number of modifications were made to the J Bass to accommodate the changing tastes in music production; most notably, maple fingerboards and a back pickup moved closer to the bridge. And later when 5-string basses came into vogue, the Jazz Bass — a staple of funk and fusion — was a natural for adding a low B string. The 5-string Jazz Bass and has since become ubiquitous on stages, in orchestra pits, and in studios worldwide.

Timeless single-coil bass sound

Although the versatile Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass V sounds great in just about any context, it really shines in musical settings that demand that classic scooped, growling bass sound and benefit from the extended range of a tight, responsive low B string that feels like a natural extension of the instrument. With the Classic Vibe '70s J Bass V, you can achieve a myriad of tones by blending the volume of both Fender Designed Alnico single-coil pickups to taste. Whether you play jazz, rock, metal, blues, country — or any fusions thereof — the Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass V will deliver the tones you need.

Shaped for comfort and performance

One of the things that made the J Bass an instant hit with working bass players was its unique offset-waist body shape. Perfect whether playing standing or seated, the classic Jazz Bass contoured body will make those marathon gigs and sessions much more comfortable. With its slim C-profile neck (1.875" wide at the nut in the 5-string version), this instrument was originally designed to appeal to jazz bassists. The slender neck not only facilitates the fluid execution of fast, complex bass lines; it's perfect for any musical style — which is why you hear the Jazz Bass in every genre of music.
