I really don’t know who made this nice unbranded mid / late
60s Japanese archtop, but it was most likely either Kawai or Fujigen. It is
another rescue with great bones and all new electronics and complete
professional setup ready to play. The paint is split and checked, and there are
dings and dents all over it from a long life of use, but structurally it is in
very good condition.
The luan neck is straight and true with the original
trussrod working perfectly. The original frets were a mess- I pulled them,
trued up the beautiful rosewood
fretboard to a perfect 12” radius and gave it new Jescar 47104 frets, new
Wilkinson tuners and a new bone nut. It’s a nice medium C, very comfortable
player (24-1/2” scale) with a modern TOM bridge, new body studs / inserts and a
new trapeze.
The pickups are my handwound p90s, voiced and matched for
the neck and bridge position- reverse wound reverse poles (RWRP) for full
humbucking when played together. Add the new Bournes / CTS / Switchcraft
components and it is better than ever and sounds exactly the way a p90
hollowbody should.
I hesitate to call this a ratrod because the finish is in
pretty good condition- not all that ratty- but with the upgrades
and professional setup, it is a real player ready to rip-snort like a ratrod
should.
This is a great player.
