This is a Ben Harper specced guitar by Asher Guitars: The “MOZO”!
Born out of a collaboration with Ben Harper guitarist Jason Mozersky, this is the “MOZO”. Based on the ‘60s era stack knob and featuring a ‘50s OPB pickguard shape, this is combined with a ST body shape and TL pickup layout for a unique instrument. The head design is inspired by a 1920s Knutsen Hawaiian guitar.
Seymour Duncan Custom Shop “Swingster Tele Set” pickups are installed, with simple controls letting you adjust the pickup tone and volume.
Among the units that came in, this one was specially make to Ben Harper specs. A stunning single piece ash body is partnered with a tough, slab cut maple neck. The two-tone sunburst coloring reminds us of ‘50s era Fenders, while the tortoiseshell pickguard gives it a vintage yet stylish feel.
On the neck are “Charlie Christian” pickups, as seen on the Gibson ES-150, adapted for use on a solid body guitar. For the bridge, ‘50s style custom TL flat pole piece pickups are utilized.
The first-generation type electric jazz C.C pickups provide an extremely clear yet malleable sound, matching well with the solid body construction. These are paired with ‘50s era pickups, reminiscent of death metal band “Blackguard”. The bridge pickups give a fat telecaster sound and the neck pickups, a jazzy sound. No selector is installed, however using the volume controls you can easily create your ideal guitar tone. Getting used to the controls may take some time, nonetheless the lightweight body and sturdy neck makes for a straightforwardly built guitar.
