The Twen Star looks and plays about just as good as a Höfner 500/1 or an Eko 990, and sounds rather better, with a really “woodish” voice and despite the short scale (30 “) an astonishing capacity to emulate when needed the tone of a double bass. These are so rare because they were phased out by 1968. All German parts, the Klira factory was down the street from the Hofner factory and many speculate workers would share templates and information on build blueprints.
This bass is the best bass I’ve ever played. It’s so smooth and easy to play. The neck is set, which is much more desirable than the later bolt on neck. The neck pickup is very round sounding, and the bride has an incredible plunk to it. Do some research on Klira basses if you haven’t already. I have used this in my studio on countless sessions, and I have used it live as well. It’s amazing in all applications. This is a rare one with a set neck I’d much rather sell locally but if the buyer pays for shipping and insurance, I’ll gladly ship. This is a collection piece worthy of any collector, or a player piece ready to hit the road. Plenty of life left in her. Frets are great, and it’s strung with pyramid flat wound strings. Comes with a hard shell case :)
This will outshine any Hofner it is put up against
