Acme Audio in Detroit has been manufacturing the original direct boxes as used at Motown and other legendary Detroit studios. They tracked down the holy grail transformers-- but could only find 50. Recently they sourced 15 more transformers and so here is the final run, the last 15 Wolfboxes.
This is the bass tone of James Jamerson. When your ear first hears the smoothness of the midrange with the hint of bite it is an epiphany. Most of Motown guitars and many other instruments were recorded through these very boxes. If you are a fan of the sound, your ear will recognize it instantly.
These just came out a few months ago and they are long gone. You can't get them. A legendary studio in Nashville snagged up 10 of them and a lot of insiders just foreclosed upon the rest.
