Up for sale is an ultra rare vintage white Steinberger GL4T-GR. The GR indicates a factory installed Roland GR series hex MIDI controller. Serial #5227 originally invoiced on 9/30/87, built in the Newburgh, NY factory.
These one-piece composite USA made L series guitars have often been considered one of the best platforms for pitch-to-MIDI synth systems. The ultra stiff neck, quick attack and even frequency response results in quicker tracking and less ghost notes. Roland understood this concept, utilizing a separate composite reinforcing bar to stabilize the neck on the G-707 guitars.
Note that the internal Roland circuitry does not produce any tones or direct MIDI data. You will need a 24 pin Roland cable to connect to vintage Roland outboard synths like the GR-300 or GR-700. Or you can pick up a newer 24-to-13 pin converter to use this with any recent Roland or other 13 pin input systems that detect pitch to MIDI. There are converters for this on eBay often.
The easy access controls on the top of the guitar make changing patches & settings a breeze. The two stainless steel "dots" on either side of the bridge humbucker are integrated touch modulation sensors. These work with both vintage 24 pin and newer 13 pin synths and can be programmed for various other effects in newer models. The MODE switch becomes a momentary patch selector with newer 13 pin devices.
You do not need a synth to use this guitar. All of the guitar electronics work just fine as a standard electric guitar through the 1/4" output. The electric output is also carried through the 24 pin cable to be processed or mixed as well.
Includes original logo gigbag, original trem arm, plug-in leg rest & transposing adjustment tool. TransTrem has been refurbished with new 623-2RS bearings and roller saddles burnished. The guitar has been played in it's 30+ years, but is in very good condition as you can see from the pics. I can send links to original high res photos for closer inspection to serious buyers.
