The limited Gretsch G6164 Variety 40W combo amplifier is truly amazing... the only reason I am selling it is to pay down a new guitar acquisition. The amp is in excellent condition, bought NEW from Street Sounds, Brooklyn, NY - Gretsch's largest dealer on the east coast. The only flaw is a barely noticeable (less than 1" long) small ding in the side panel tolex (see last pic — the camera flash shows the ding noticeably, but it is far less noticeable in regular light).
This amp has been hand-crafted by the Victoria Amplifier company in the U.S.A., exclusively for Gretsch. Not many were made over a short 2-3 year run, so the only examples are NOS or from private sellers.
I've owned this amp since 2010 and gigged with it less than 5 times, so it's just barely broken in, and always kept well in a smoke-free home. The sound is (as the Gretsch ads said) "Ridiculous" — a very warm, rich sonic palette that seems to swirl around the room rather than just fill it. Reverb and tremolo are simply off the charts, especially the tremolo circuit (modeled on an early Fender brownface circuit), which is VERY rich and unlike anything I've ever heard. And the reverb is, well, superb. Great amp for rockabilly, surf, blues and country — sounds great in small venues and has plenty of power for larger ones. The amp has incredible range and tone — great cleans for Chet Atkins style, as well as tons of ability to be driven hard if that's your thing. Tone-to-the-bone, along with unique, stunning looks.
