2013 Gibson SG Angus
Young Signature Thunderstruck SG Electric
Guitar in very good condition with light playwear and
a few dents, dings and scratches on the front. The back has a few dents and
dings, mostly around the edges and some buckle marks in the center but nothing
too serious. There is a "rash" that spells out MARX between
the tuners on the back of the headstock (PLEASE SEE PICTURE). The instrument has
a nice vintage cherry color with a nice nitro
finish that shows off the beautiful grain in the select piece of wood chosen for
this classic. The guitar has a nice action and the custom Angus Young neck
profile is very reminiscent of a thin 60's slim taper Les Paul, only
thinner, and it has a really nice feel. The frets are in excellent condition
with little to no playwear. The
'57 Classic
neck and Angus Young Signature bridge pickup have great tone. The guitar is
equipped with an ABR tune-o-matic
bridge and a stop bar tailpiece.
The truss rod cover is adorned with Angus' signature. This guitar is very
resonant and plays like a dream, an exceptional instrument...all under
6lbs. This guitar is not just an SG.... it's
better.
Includes Gibson hard shell case.
Serial Number: 110930651
Weight: 5 lbs. 15 oz.
Classic rock doesn't get much bigger than AC/DC, and no one wallops out the massive, bone-crunching tone like Angus Young on his Gibson SG. Young’ incendiary tone has inspired wave after wave of rock guitar heroes, and turned on countless players to the power of his seminal guitar of choice, the SG. Now the Gibson USA Angus Young SG puts all the tone and playability of this classic double-cutaway into a signature model made to Young’ own specs. The result is an instrument with all the punch, crunch and sizzle that Angus achieves with his treasured SG, in a guitar that’ still well within reach of the workaday rocker.
Way back in 1961, the Gibson SG replaced the underappreciated Les Paul Standard, and while the Les Paul would surface later in the decade as a rock and blues classic, the new SG (originally named Les Paul/SG) was an instant hit in its own right. Its simple yet inspired ingredients of thin, all-mahogany body and neck and two Gibson humbucking pickups gave it a snappy attack with a muscular punch, while its slim, fast neck yielded unprecedented playability.
The Gibson USA Angus Young SG not only captures the look, feel and sound of a great SG, it also embodies some of the rare specs and qualities of Angus’ own '68 model, known to be a stand-out example among a classic breed. Back and ready to rock, the Gibson USA Angus Young SG puts the full fury of that classic AC/DC tone in your hands.
As a signature model from Gibson USA that’ made to the artist’ own specifications, the Angus Young SG undoubtedly looks the part. Dressed in a high-gloss finish, the guitar carries Angus-certified lightning bolt inlays on its fretboard, a signature-engraved truss-rod cover, and contrasting vintage-cream fingerboard binding and selector switch ring. The Angus Young SG’ distinctions don't end with the visuals, though, and this model is built from the ground up to a short-lived set of specs that are rare in existing SGs today.
Light, ultra-resonant mahogany is selected for its dual-horned body, while the dimensions of the guitar’ solid-mahogany neck are extremely unusual. Matching the extra slim, narrow neck on Angus’ own '68 SG Standard, the Angus Young SG carries a neck that’ just 0.775 thick at the 1st fret, and 0.850 thick at the 12th, with a nut width of 1.550. These specs yield a neck that is superbly playable, equally suited to grinding power-chord rhythm work and speed-freak soloing. To squeeze every drop of tone from the instrument, Gibson USA loads it with the popular '57 Classic humbucking pickup in the neck and an Angus Young Signature humbucker in the bridge for added punch and sizzle. Vintage-style tuners and a Corian nut grace the headstock, while down at the business end, the classic pairing of a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece keep things rock solid.

Outrageously High Powered. Just Like Angus.
There’s not much to say about AC/DC’s resident immortal, Angus Young, that hasn’t already been said. And no player is as closely associated to his guitar as this acclaimed rock’n roller is to Gibson’s timeless SG design.
Angus Young’s guitar of choice has always been the Gibson SG and Gibson have honoured him with three Angus Young Signature models, all SG electric guitars. This is the first, the mark one version, a fitting tribute to one of rock and roll’s original bad boys and a diamond amongst the rough cut gems.
Designed and manufactured to Angus’ exacting specifications at the time, the Angus Young Signature SG is a true and faithful reproduction of the guitar that he has played on countless tours and albums…a trademark instrument…do a google search on early Bon Scott era ACDC…
By Angus’ request, Gibson have included his classic “Devil Signature” logo on the headstock, adding the personal touch of a true guitar legend.
Custom Angus Young Neck Profile
Angus Young may be one of the biggest Men of Rock but a big man he is not. The neck profile found on this Angus Young Signature SG is based on the more modern, slim-tapered necks most commonly associated with the Les Paul and SG models of the early 1960s, but tailored to Angus’ exact personal specs, making it Gibson’s narrowest neck, perfectly suited to Angus’ smaller stature. You are sure to love it too – not everyone has hands like a ploughman!
Nitrocellulose Finish
Applying the nitrocellulose finish to a Gibson guitar is one of the most expensive and labour intensive elements of the guitar-making process. A properly applied nitro finish requires extensive man hours, several evenly applied coats, and an exorbitant amount of drying time. But this fact has never swayed Gibson into changing this time-tested method, employed since the first Gibson was swathed with nitrocellulose lacquer back in 1894. The reasons why are interesting. Used in favour of the traditional French polishing shellac based methods of the time, nitrocellulose offered an unmatched level finish quality and durability. What was discovered with the passage of time and especially after the introduction of synthetic finishes such as polyurethane is that nitro dries to a much thinner coat than a polyurethane finish. This results in less interference with the natural vibration of the instrument, allowing for a purer tone.
Solid Mahogany Body
Probably the most central of all SG features is its solid mahogany body. The mahogany goes through the same rigorous selection process as all of Gibson’s woods, and is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson’s team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories.
Exclusive Features
This guitar features a pickup designed by Angus himself…the Angus Young Signature Humbucker, in the bridge position, and a ’57 Classic Humbucker in the neck. The headstock features Young’s famous “devil schoolboy” and the tremolo bar features Angus’s name in place of the Gibson logo. The guitar's fretboard has trapezoid fret inlays, a signature black pickguard, 22 frets, antique cherry finish and nickel hardware. The volume and tone knobs are of the Top Hat style and this guitar also sports the standard 3-way pickup selector switch.
This signature model is unique in that it defines the Bon Scott era and other
than the signature touches, eg, Devil Schoolboy Headstock logo, “Angus” engraved
tremolo tailpiece and signature pickup, it is identical to the guitar Angus used
in the early days of AC/DC.
