Offered is a vintage/antique Evette & Schaeffer alto saxophone made in Paris by Buffet Crampon and stamped by Carl Fischer, New York who was the distributor. The serial number 23999 places the date of manufacture c.1916 during the early evolution of the first saxophones after their invention by Adolphe Sax. This axophone is silver plated and gold plated in the bell. This design shares many of the key configurations of the original Sax design making it truly a collectors item and a piece of history as well as a playable vintage horn. Despite this being an early horn it can be played at A=440, although the tone hole placement places the actual ptch to around A=435. We just overhauled this incredible alto with treated kidskin pads and will include a full six month Warranty for service here at the store. It plays with the old sweet French tone so sought after by players worldwide. Mecahnically very good condition with only minor scratches and dings. The neck appears to have been straightened in the past and is slightly out of round. All new pads, corks and bumpers and plays with a light touch. In the early development of the saxophone both Selmer and Buffet were running naeck and neck as makers of the worlds finest saxophones. You can hear the similarities between the Selmer Modele 22 and the Evette & Schaeffer. So sweet and so French. We are including a replacement case, a stock mouthpiece, reeds, neck strap and cork grease.
