Very Rare 1960 Kay K5970J Professional Electric Jazz Bass in Black with Kay Case

Original 1960 Kay K5970J Professional Jazz Bass!! Just...wow. With less than 500 made, finding one of these doesn't happen often. Kay made this model K5970J electric Jazz bass in Chicago between 1960 and 1962. The body and neck of the bass are Maple with a beautiful fingerboard, and the body is covered in beautiful lacquer checking. The pickup is the legendary Blade design Kay pickup for that rich, bluesy thump. The headstock is extra large and referred to as a "boat paddle" headstock. Kay intentionally designed the headstock as so to facilitate the use of the Grover "Tulip" machine heads and the Chevron logo headstock badge. This is the same model bass that was played by Paul McCartney in the "Ebony & Ivory" music video. This bass comes in a wooden case. This particular bass has got to be one of the coolest ones we've ever seen. 31" scale length, chunky rounded neck with a nut width measuring 1.45" and 1.810" at the 12th fret. Weighs 7.74 Lbs and has great balance when using a strap. Plays smoothly and has superb rich thumping tone. Everything about this bass screams unique and Mid-century modern. And if smoking were still popular, then these two would go hand in hand with a tumbler full of scotch and water.
