About This Listing

The C models are underrated sleepers. A classical-esque neck w/a more rounded profile, 25" scale, mated to what is essentially an LG-1 body.Maybe Gibson intended the C to be a crossover like the X braced steel/nylon F models. Obviously you should never put a set of full tension steel strings on this ,or any instrument designed for nylon.  That said, the ample ladder top bracing of the C allow for the use of a set of Thomastik-Infeld's Classic "S" low tension flatwounds, turning the C into a versatile hybrid capable of venturing into Bossa Nova, jazz and world territories. This is an earlier production example w/a one piece mahogany neck, not the later mahogany/maple laminate ,nice Brazilian rswd f'board &bridge and very good quality woods used throughout. Tortisiod bound Solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back & sides, neck&end blocks&kerfing all solid mahogany, original low jumbo frets,Kluson tuners, hide glue and a thin nitro finish, with an aged light amber tone, not the more pallid hue often seen at the C-O/LG-O level.Aquiried from the original owner, it spent many years in the closet.I removed&reglued the brace above the sound hole adding a patch of1/16th"aircraft plywood (very light & strong) to reinforce a crack that had developed on each side of the f'board. This repair was properly done with no negative impact on tone.It has had the bridge reglued along with a minor center seam separation at some point in the past. Although the work was done well, whoever did it was a bit sloppy applying the hide glue and there is some excess glue on the underside of the top along the center seam and some other drips on the guitar's interior. Nothing is visible on the exterior and there's no effect on tone.It has been thoroughly checked out and setup with low action w/Augustine blue by an experienced repairman. There is still enough of the original saddle remaining to lower the action down into the super low regions.7out of 10 cosmetically w/ scratches, finish checks and general wear.Original brown soft alligator case, also in very good cond.all latches and hinges and Gibson case badge are intact and work fine. The orig.plastic handle is missing but the hardware's there and replacement handles are an easy fix.As a player's piece this particular C-O is probably the nicest I've seen,a straight neck with good angle.A 52 year old ,one owner instrument w/orig. case, professionally repaired /setup and ready to play for the same $ as an e bay alternative of unknown origins..
