(NEW) For the past three years or so, we have been ordering custom Bourgeois guitars with exotic Peruvian (also known as “Sacha” or “Higuerilla”) rosewood. Visually striking, this wood also imbues the instrument with a distinctive, complex tone – we hear it as a happy medium between mahogany, koa and East Indian rosewood. Peruvian rosewood makes for a particularly interesting dreadnought, warm and sweet, with a very satisfying chime in the middle range and highs. A flatpicking cannon it is not.. this is the kind of guitar that you want to play with the flesh of your fingers, and is wonderful for vocal accompaniment.
The torrefied Adirondack top and hide glue construction give this instrument a played in, vintage sound. It’s a dynamic instrument, very responsive at all volume levels. You’ve not heard anything quite like it! It’s hard to imagine a much prettier back than this one, with wonderful spider-web figure and just enough sapwood… right up our alley. Dana Bourgeois knows how to pick a set of wood!
1 3/4″ nut width and 2 3/8″ spacing at the saddle, ebony fingerboard and bridge, ivoroid binding and bridge pins. Ziricote peghead overlay, herringbone purfling and traditional zipper backstrip.
