EGMOND
Model “3V”
1965
RED
VINYL
“Vinylized”
From my “VINYL”
collection of Vintage guitars.
A 1965 EGMOND 3V
electric guitar.
“The Egmond Model 3 was
built in Holland by Dick Egmond and company around 1965. Sir Paul’s very first
electric guitar was an Egmond Solid Seven which was neither a solid body nor a
seven string instrument. (It makes me wonder.) It was manufactured by Egmond, but
had the Rosetti name on the headstock. Rosetti was the name of a musical
instrument distributor. Egmond guitars were more popular in Europe than in
America as in the early sixties few American made instruments were available to
that market. More importantly, Egmonds were not very expensive and were within
the grasp of many aspiring guitarists. In this country they were not a very
expensive either, although they were of decent quality and had some interesting
features. This Model 3
clearly took its inspiration from Fender’s Jazzmaster and Jaguar. The body of
the guitar is wood covered with plastic (Vinyl). It is lightweight and sports
three fine sounding pickups. The neck is kind of chunky, the frets are small
like many instruments of that period and the guitar plays well. It has a
great whammy bar that stays in tune rather nicely. All in all this is a
well-made guitar that I would not hesitate to use in a band setting.” (online
source).
And from the Egmond catalog:
“A
new and exciting concept in solid body gutiars….Contoured body with deep
cutaways….finished in DELUXE RIVERA VINYL….Extra slim ‘Varifort” neck with
polished nickel silver frets, position dot inlays, ….Finest quality machine
heads…beautiful PEARLOID pickguard and matching headstock…all metal parts are
heavily nickel plated…’Vibratone” vibrato by EGMOND…Metal Bridge…Triple new
‘POWERTONE’ pickups with two way individual adjustment, controls for tone and
volume, separate toggle switch for solo and rhythm, 7-way selector switch for a
wide range of magical sound.”
Please look online
for soundclips for this guitar.
It is an amazing
sounding guitar and extremely playable with great balance.
COSMETIC
CONDITION: This guitar is in GOOD+ condition. The vinyl is pulling away from the metal
binding in two places as you can see on the photos-but it has been arrested by
regluing. The PEARLOID pickguard and
headstock layer are showing yellowing from aging. The metal binding is still secure and not
tarnished.
NOTE ABOUT THE
COLOR: Please understand that the Egmond
designation for this color is: Vinyl Red. And the body is covered with red vinyl. Because the vinyl used here has a leather “bead”
pattern, the color of red you see is variable according to lighting source (artificial
or natural) and the angle of the light source. Sometimes in looks bright red,
dull orange, dull red, cherry red, candy apple red, or other derivation of “red
vinyl”. Please take that into
consideration when looking at these photos.
They were taken outside in the early afternoon yesterday.
