The Dynaudio BM5 mkIII is a compact two-way active nearfield monitor for project studios, edit suites and desktop mixing. It follows the BM5A MKII with more output and a wider frequency and power response: a 6.5-inch MSP woofer and a 28 mm soft dome tweeter run from two 50 W Class D amplifiers through a DSP crossover, covering 42 Hz to 24 kHz. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs connect it to an interface or a console.

Drivers

The woofer's large-diameter voice coil surrounds the magnet for better linearity, and its aluminum former and wire keep the moving mass low for quick, accurate transients. Dynaudio molds the diaphragm and dust cap as one piece of Magnesium Silicate Polymer (MSP), which is light and very rigid. Dynaudio builds the drivers by hand.

Room Controls

Switches on the rear panel tune the speaker to its position. The LF shelf (+2, 0 or -2 dB) compensates for nearby walls and corners, the MF notch (-2 or -4 dB) offsets the low-mid bump from a console, and the HF switch trims the treble by 1 dB either way. A high-pass filter at 60 or 80 Hz prepares the BM5 mkIII for a subwoofer, and Dynaudio's 9S and 18S are its companion subs. The power switch can put the speaker to sleep after 20 minutes without signal.
