The Dynaudio 18S is an active DSP subwoofer that extends Dynaudio studio monitors into the deep bass, turning a two-way stereo or surround setup into a three-way system for mixing and mastering. Two opposed 9-inch MSP+ Hybrid Drive long-throw woofers sit in a sealed cabinet, driven by a 500 W Class D amplifier, and reach down to 16 Hz. Built-in presets match the crossover to BM, LYD and other Dynaudio monitors, while distance alignment and parametric EQ fit the sub to your room.

Matched to Dynaudio Monitors

Dynaudio measured its studio monitors and stored a performance map for each one in the 18S. Choose your speaker model on the rear-panel display and the sub sets its low-pass filter to suit. Presets cover the BM6 and BM15 Classic, BM5 mkIII, LYD 5, LYD 7, LYD 8, LYD 48 and M5P, and Dynaudio adds new models through firmware updates over USB. With speakers from other makers, you set the low-pass frequency yourself.

Setup and Room Tuning

Enter the distance from the listening position to each monitor and to the sub, and the 18S applies time and phase delay so its bass arrives in step with the speakers. Three bands of parametric EQ pull down room modes, and a switchable 80 Hz high-pass filter on the outputs keeps the lowest bass out of the monitors. The monitors connect through the sub's balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA outputs, and a 12 V trigger input handles remote standby control.
