Multi-Scale Construction: Why It Matters

The SRMS625EX uses fanned frets that gradually increase in scale length from the treble side (34") to the bass side (35.5"). This isn't just an aesthetic choice — each string vibrates at an individually optimized tension and length, which improves intonation up and down the neck and gives the low B string the extra mass and tension it needs to speak clearly at lower tunings.

The neck itself is built with Ibanez's SRMS5 Multi Scale 5-piece Maple/Walnut construction and a bolt-on joint. The neck profile is designed to follow the natural angle of your fretting hand as it moves from lower to higher positions, so the ergonomics feel intuitive rather than awkward — even if you're new to fanned frets. At the nut, the width measures 45mm (1.771"), with 24 medium frets across a 305mm (12") radius Ebonol fretboard.

Ebonol is a synthetic material made from layers of black paper and phenolic resin. It plays smoothly, holds up well to temperature and humidity changes, and contributes a tight, bright character to the overall tone.

Bartolini BH2 Pickups and Active EQ

Both the neck and bridge positions are loaded with Bartolini BH2 passive humbucker soapbars. The dual-coil design maximizes articulation, and the long blade pole piece gives you even string-to-string pickup response across all five strings. Players tend to find these pickups deliver a tight low end, punchy midrange, and smooth high-frequency response — qualities that translate well to both clean and high-gain playing situations.

Running into those pickups is Ibanez's Custom Electronics 3-band active EQ with a dedicated EQ bypass switch. The mid control has a 3-way frequency switch that lets you select between 250Hz, 450Hz, and 700Hz center frequencies — a meaningful feature when you need to cut through a dense mix or scoop mids for a cleaner fundamental. When you flip the EQ bypass, the treble knob becomes a global passive tone control, so you're never without options.

Hardware and Build

String isolation is handled by the MR5 Mono-Rail V bridge — each of the five saddles is independently locked to the body, which helps maximize vibration transfer from string to wood without cross-string interference. The result is cleaner note definition, especially in the lower register.

Hardware throughout is finished in black, matching the Black Flat (satin) finish on the Okoume body. String spacing at the bridge is 16.5mm. The body itself is a solid Okoume construction in Ibanez's familiar Soundgear double-cutaway shape — light enough for extended playing without sacrificing resonance or sustain.
