How the SM7 Will Improve Your Recordings

Podcasters: The SM7's cardioid pattern focuses on your voice and rejects much of the room behind it. Keyboard clicks, computer fans, and echoey walls matter far less than with a condenser mic. You get that rich "radio voice" without a fully treated studio.

Rappers and vocalists: The SM7 handles loud, aggressive delivery without harshness or distortion. You can get right up on it for intimate, bass-rich takes, and its smooth top end keeps sibilance and bright "S" sounds under control. That makes mixing easier.

Pro tips for best results:

• Give it plenty of gain. Like all SM7 models, this is a low-output dynamic mic. Pair it with a preamp or interface that has strong clean gain.
• Get close. Position your mouth about 1 to 3 inches from the mic for the full, warm proximity effect it's known for. The included pop filter controls those Ps!
• Use the arm. The included boom arm lets you set a consistent position every session, so your sound stays consistent from episode to episode or take to take.
