Up for sale is a 1988/89 Charvel Model 3DR, made in Japan and finished in gloss black.
The 3DR is one of the less common guitars from the late Charvel Model Series, with its smaller body, reverse pointy headstock, simple HS pickup layout and stripped-down controls.
This one has also had a few useful player upgrades over the years: an Original Floyd Rose, EVH D-Tuna, and a Seymour Duncan bridge humbucker.
CONDITION
This guitar is in very good condition for its age.
The black finish still has a deep gloss and looks great overall. There are some light surface marks and a few small marks on the back, along with normal age-related wear on the hardware.
The maple neck and rosewood fingerboard are also in good shape.
I’ve tried to show the condition honestly in the photos rather than make a nearly 40-year-old guitar sound perfect.
Additional photos are available upon request.
ORIGINALITY / NOTABLE DETAILS
The original Jackson JT-6 tremolo has been replaced with an Original Floyd Rose, fitted with an EVH D-Tuna.
The bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan humbucker. I have not confirmed the exact Duncan model, so I’m not going to guess.
The Jackson neck single-coil remains in place, along with the Jackson tuners, single volume control and 3-way pickup selector.
A hard-shell case and tremolo bar are included.

WHY THIS ONE STANDS OUT
The 3DR has a different look and feel from the more common Model 3 and Model 4.
The reverse headstock, HS layout and simple controls give it a clean, no-nonsense late-’80s Charvel look.
This one isn’t being sold as an untouched collector piece. The Original Floyd Rose, D-Tuna and Seymour Duncan bridge pickup make it more of a player’s 3DR, while still keeping the character of the original guitar intact.
