The Fender Custom Shop Austin MacNutt 60s Telecaster in Natural takes a familiar early '60s Tele formula and turns it into something far more distinctive. Built by Master Builder Austin MacNutt, this one-off creation starts with a figured one-piece ash body and adds a Brazilian rosewood top, then pairs it with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The result has the recognizable bones of a vintage Telecaster, but with a material combination and visual presence that clearly set it apart from a standard reissue.

The body is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer with Fender's New Old Stock treatment, preserving a clean, vintage-inspired appearance rather than introducing artificial wear. Parchment top binding frames the Brazilian rosewood cap and provides a subtle visual break between the dark top and natural ash beneath it. Chrome and nickel hardware, a parchment '52 Tele-style pickguard, and traditional Tele controls keep the rest of the instrument grounded in classic Fender design.

Its custom neck is cut from AA quartersawn flame maple and shaped to a '60s-style Oval C, measuring .790" at the first fret and .930" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood slab fingerboard has a 9.5-inch radius and Vintage Upgrade 45085 fret wire, offering a more accommodating playing surface than a strictly period-correct 7.25-inch radius while retaining a distinctly vintage feel. White Micarta face and side dots, a bone nut, an early '60s truss rod, and a nitro lacquer neck finish round out the build.

Electronics come courtesy of a pair of Josefina hand-wound '63 Tele pickups. The neck and bridge pickups retain the straightforward clarity and immediacy that make a two-pickup Tele so useful, with a modern Tele control assembly providing familiar access to each pickup and the combined middle position. A '58 to '63 style Tele bridge assembly, vintage-style Fender-logo tuners, and .010 to .046 strings complete a setup designed around traditional Tele response and functionality.

There is plenty here for a serious Tele player to appreciate, but the material selection is what gives this Austin MacNutt build its own identity. A figured one-piece ash body, Brazilian rosewood top, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, flame maple neck, and Josefina hand-wound pickups make for a combination you simply do not encounter on an everyday Telecaster.
