The Yamaha original "SG" series first appeared in the 1960s. Starting with the GS era, it underwent several major model changes, culminating in the double-cutaway shape of the SG-30/35 around 1973. The traditional SG shape, which continues to this day, was perfected with the SG-175 in 1974, and numerous variations have been produced since then.

This time, we have an "SG-1500" in stock, which appears to have been shipped around 1981 based on its serial number and other details. It's a rare model with a short production run.

【body】
The total weight is approximately 4.6kg. The body color is a vibrant persimmon red, and the gold hardware and the wood grain, which is unique to the see-through finish, give it a very rich look. The materials are maple for the top, mahogany for the back, and it has a neck-through construction. There are scratches and dents throughout, tarnishing on the metal parts, and the paint clouding that is common in Yamaha guitars from this period. There is some damage to the pick-up ring.

【neck】
As mentioned earlier, it features a neck-through design with a 3-piece maple/mahogany construction. The fingerboard is rosewood. It uses a standard neck-through design, not the T-cross maple used in the SG-2000. The tuners have some slight variations in winding but function properly. The frets and nut show some minor wear and dents, but there is no extreme buzzing or dead spots, and playability is good. The nut width is approximately 43.2mm. It features a fairly wide nut and a relatively thin neck shape.

[Electrical System]
The controls consist of two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a three-way pickup selector switch. The rear volume and tone potentiometers have been replaced, but the push/push bi-sound function is retained. The pickups are two original semi-open type humbuckers. Combined with the traditional bi-sound function, it covers everything from thick humbucker tones to sharp single-coil tones. It's a great instrument that combines ruggedness and versatility.
