Yamaha Stage Custom/Beech Custom 4 Piece Shell Pack 14x12, 18x16, 20x18, 24x15 - Mapa Burl Veneer (C013-85)

Part of a collection in the shop on consignment: This is a bit of a Frankenstein kit. All of the drums were wrapped in an actual mapa burl veneer (glued all the way around) and then lacquered by late owner. The toms all have very nice wood hoops with matching veneer. The 14x12 tom is a Yamaha Beech Custom tom. The two holes for the original YESS mount were plugged prior to it being wrapped. The 18x16 floor tom is a Stage Custom tom. The 20x18 floor tom was originally a Beech Custom bass drum. Most of the original holes were plugged prior to being wrapped and it was drilled for Stage Custom lugs. The bass drum is a 24x15 Stage Custom bass drum with Beech Custom lugs (presumably from the 20x18). The kit includes two sets of floor tom legs (one Pearl and one Yamaha) and a Sonor snare stand.

The chrome is in pretty good shape all around with light scattered pitting and some tarnish. The claws on all of the toms are meant for bass drums. Consequently the angle isn't great and they don't fit snuggly around the hoops. The claws on the 14" and 18" were cut shorter to accommodate the tension rods. A few claws have stress cracks, and two or three claws don't match the rest. The heads still have life left in them. The mapa burl veneer was nicely done although the lacquer finish isn't perfect. The badges have some glue pressed out around them. The bearing edges are good and it looks like they were re-cut (or at least the outside roundover was) when the veneer was applied. I have lots more pictures including interior pictures of each drum to verify the 14" and 20" are in fact Beech Custom (the interior grain/color makes it very obvious). Over all it's a cool kit with uncommon sizes.
