Over the decades, Ibanez has established itself as one of the leading specialists in modern bass design, with a particularly strong ability to combine ergonomics, precision, versatility and impressive specifications. The Soundgear series perfectly embodies this philosophy. Since its introduction, the SR has built a strong reputation among bass players thanks to its outstanding playing comfort, fast neck profile and thoroughly modern approach to the electric bass.

This SR505 is an excellent example of that philosophy, but it has one particularly significant advantage: it is a genuine left-handed 5-string bass with a level of equipment that is rarely found in this price range for left-handed players. While the choice of high-quality basses is traditionally much more limited for left-handed musicians, Ibanez offers here an extremely complete instrument with very few compromises in terms of construction or electronics.

The Okoume body and five-piece Jatoba/Walnut SR5 neck provide a combination that is lightweight, comfortable and exceptionally enjoyable to play. The typical Soundgear design focuses on outstanding ergonomics, with beautifully fluid body contours and particularly easy upper-fret access thanks to its carefully sculpted neck joint. The result is a bass that quickly feels natural in the hands and works equally well for fingerstyle, slap and more modern playing techniques.

The electronics are one of the major highlights of this model. Its two passive Bartolini BH2 pickups deliver a defined, dynamic and harmonically rich sound, with plenty of depth in the low end and enough precision to maintain excellent note separation across all five strings. They are paired with an active Ibanez 3-band EQ offering a remarkably wide range of tonal possibilities, further enhanced by the choice of three different midrange frequencies, allowing the character of the instrument to be shaped very effectively. The EQ bypass is another valuable feature, giving you the option of returning to a more direct and natural signal path when desired.

The Accu-cast B505 bridge, 24 frets and standard 34" scale complete an exceptionally coherent design. The low B string integrates perfectly into the overall balance of the instrument and retains the clarity and definition required, even in the lowest register.

Ultimately, however, it is the positioning of this bass that makes it particularly appealing. Finding a genuinely well-designed 5-string left-handed bass equipped with Bartolini pickups and comprehensive active electronics, while remaining within such an accessible price range, is far from common. The price-to-performance ratio is genuinely exceptional, especially when considering the very limited choice available to left-handed bass players.
