Zildjian 1945-49' K Zildjian Istanbul 20" Thin Ride Cymbal Old Stamp Type IIa 1,724g

We have received a K Zildjian Istanbul cymbal, believed to have been manufactured between 1945 and 1949.

These vintage Zildjian cymbals are immensely popular among jazz and blues drummers for their distinctive, matured sound.

"Old K" cymbals were produced at the Istanbul factory in Turkey until around 1977; following the factory's closure, the "K Zildjian" trademark rights were transferred to the Canadian factory. K Zildjians made in Turkey up to that time are known as "Old Ks," and the "Old Stamp" models—particularly those from before 1959—are highly prized today as top-tier vintage cymbals.

This specific unit bears a stamp identified as the "Old Stamp IIa," a rare type that is seldom seen.

A distinctive feature is the "Small K" stamp, where the "K" and "ZILDJIAN & CO" lettering is smaller than that of the "First Stamp." The "Zildjian" text at the bottom is also smaller, and a star symbol is visible inside the crescent moon.

Weighing in at 1,724g, this cymbal is very thin and possesses a supple feel. Despite its thin profile, the sound image remains stable even during fast legato playing, offering a composed response. It delivers the rich, evocative sound characteristic of Old Ks, featuring an exquisite balance between stick definition and a spreading wash of overtones.

There are cracks and enlargement around the center hole, and the triangular cut on the edge appears to be a repair made after a crack occurred. Two additional holes have been drilled into the cymbal, with rivets installed in two of the holes.

While we would not recommend this cymbal to those who prioritize pristine condition, it is a highly distinctive and captivating piece.
