Up for sale, a 1976 Gibson SG Standard in perfect working order, complete with a ‘chainsaw’ hardshell case. A unique vintage example, this SG features a stock pickup combination of a Tarback in the bridge position and a T Top at the neck.

Weighing 7lbs 3oz, this SG features traditional solid mahogany construction with a bound rosewood fingerboard, finished in a gloss Wine Red nitro lacquer. The “Tarback” (branded by Gibson as “Super Humbucking” pickups) was designed by famed pickup guru Bill Lawrence, and these humbuckers have a different magnet structure and fewer winds than the T Tops produced in the same era. Coupled with the black epoxy that gives these humbuckers their name and ensures great feedback rejection by suppressing microphonics, the Tarback is a lively, sparkling design, perfect for pairing with the SG's mahogany construction. The neck position T Top pairs very well with the Tarback, warm and woody with excellent clarity. This SG Standard benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The original Wine Red gloss nitro lacquer finish has a few small touch-ups, with some buckle worming on the back, a sliver of wear through the finish along the back bass-side body carve, and various dings and scuffs consistent with use. The gloss on the neck profile shows palm wear down to the bare mahogany, fast and inviting to the palm. On the headstock, there is a ½” piece of new mahogany on the bass-side headstock edge (purely cosmetic and not structural), finish matched with black lacquer overspray on the headstock face.

A circa 1980s Gibson ‘chainsaw’ hardshell case is included.
