Active DI Box

The Radial J48 is a phantom-powered active DI that reproduces the sound of your instrument without adding distortion or artifacts.

A common problem with many active DIs is that square wave distortion occurs when the input voltage from the instrument exceeds the DI's internal operating voltage. As a result, if the internal operating voltage is low, it cannot accurately reproduce the sound of active basses or acoustic guitars with wide dynamics. To solve this problem, the Radial J48 uses a built-in switching power supply to raise the internal operating voltage from the typical 3V found in most DIs to 9V. This allows for sufficient headroom, providing distortion-free, faithful reproduction of the original sound even with large signals.

In addition to a phase inversion switch, a 15dB pad switch, and a ground lift switch, the Radial J48 also features a unique stereo-to-mono merge switch and an 80Hz high-pass filter switch. The high-pass filter can also be used to cut unwanted low frequencies and improve the clarity of the mids and highs.

Pressing the MERGE switch on the J48 mixes the signals inserted into the INPUT and THRU ports internally and outputs that mixed signal from the main XLR port. This feature can save channels when the mixer has insufficient channels during a live performance.
