Epiphone Jimi Hendrix "Love Drops" Flying V Electric Guitar - Ebony
The Jimi Hendrix "Love Drops" Flying V, created by Epiphone in collaboration with Gibson Custom and the Hendrix family, faithfully recreates the guitar Jimi used from 1967-1969. It features a mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck, laurel fretboard, and hand-painted psychedelic graphics. Equipped with Gibson Custombucker humbuckers, CTS potentiometers, and a Maestro Vibrola, it offers top-tier electronics. The guitar also includes an Epiphone hardshell case with custom Hendrix logos.
The Story of Hendrix's 1967 Flying V
The exact time and place Jimi Hendrix acquired his 1967 Flying V remain uncertain, though it is widely believed he purchased it sometime during the summer of 1967, likely while staying in New York City. Regardless of the details, Hendrix began performing on stage with the Flying V, which he had uniquely hand-painted with vibrant psychedelic artwork, starting in July 1967. This guitar quickly became one of Hendrix’s favorites for live shows, second only to his iconic Olympic White Stratocaster. It's also thought to have been used in studio recordings, including tracks like "All Along the Watchtower," "Little Miss Strange," and some BBC radio sessions, although these claims are largely speculative. Despite his clear attachment to the instrument, in January 1969, Hendrix gave his ’67 Flying V to Mick Cox of the Irish band Eire Apparent, who stripped the guitar's finish and later sold it in 1973. The guitar changed hands several times over the years before eventually being acquired by David Brewis, co-founder of the rock memorabilia company Rock Stars Guitars. Brewis meticulously recreated Hendrix’s artwork using vintage photographs. An acetate transfer of his recreated design was later provided to Gibson to ensure their replicas, including the Epiphone Jimi Hendrix “Love Drops” Flying V, were as authentic as possible.
Equipped with Gibson USA Custombuckers
The Epiphone Jimi Hendrix “Love Drops” Flying V not only captures the iconic look of the original, but it also delivers authentic, period-accurate tone thanks to its Gibson USA Custombuckers. Featuring Alnico III magnets, these Custombuckers are among the most faithful PAF replicas ever made. Their warm, sweet sound transports you back to the golden era of humbuckers, providing the signature sonic qualities of some of the most revered pickups in history. With historically accurate 42 AWG wire, unbalanced coils, and an unpotted design, Custombuckers aim to be an exact reproduction of the original PAF humbuckers. The Hendrix Flying V also includes two volume knobs and a master tone knob, enhanced with CTS potentiometers and a Mallory capacitor.
Loaded with Historically Accurate Details
At first glance, it's clear that Epiphone paid meticulous attention to historical accuracy when designing the Jimi Hendrix “Love Drops” Flying V. The mahogany body showcases the classic “V” shape, paired with psychedelic graphics inspired by the original hand-painted artwork. The guitar features a set one-piece mahogany neck with a rounded “C” profile, joined with a traditional long heel for added stability. High-quality hardware is used throughout, including a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge, a short Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, and deluxe tuning machines with double-ring keystone buttons. Other striking details include witch hat knobs, mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays, and a durable gloss finish. Hendrix’s ’67 Flying V has long been a symbol of the psychedelic era’s innovative spirit, and the Epiphone Hendrix Flying V offers modern players the chance to wield one of the most iconic instruments of that time.
The LTD M-1001 is not just a guitar; it’s a powerful tool for expression. Its striking appearance and exceptional sound quality make it a favorite among players who want to stand out both visually and sonically
