If you missed out in 1991 (or weren't even of age then), The Waiting is over.  Here's an opportunity that isn't Too Good To Be True - it's the Rickenbacker 660/12TP Tom Petty Limited Edition in Fireglo.  Only 1000 were made, of which about 800 were done in Fireglo.  It's rare that one comes up for sale as nice as this one.  Here we have number 449 in the run.

Per Rickenbacker's original release, the guitar was designed to Tom Petty's demanding standards.  It's a solid body, 12 string electric made from highly figured Birdseye Maple with a fully inlaid 21 fret fingerboard on a specially designed neck.  A key spec is the  wider 1.75" nut width, designed for better playability.  As soon as the guitar is picked up, the comfort level is realized.  You won't be left Out In The Cold trying to play this one.

Vintage-style single-coil "toaster top" pickups bring the classic chime to the forefront.  There's really only one true way to get the old school Rickenbacker sound, and that's with a Rickenbacker like this.  These pickups provide the 60's jangle players love, with a nice crispness for bright and articulate tone.   It's the sound of Listen to Her Heart, Here Comes My Girl, Free Fallin and many other hits.

The 660/12TP features "checked" binding, vintage pickups, knobs, and keys, and a trapeze tailpiece with 12 saddle bridge.  And, of course it has the bi-level gold plexi pickguard bearing Tom Petty’s signature.   The previous owner put "oven" knobs on the guitar, which we think look great, but the originals are in the case if you want to switch back.  Everything else is original. 

The guitar was Built To Last - it's in great shape, especially considering that it's now 35 years old.  The previous owner took great care of it.  While it did get played so there are finish scratches, overall it's super clean.  The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly (quite important on a 12 string like this).  Whether it's for studio or stage use, this 660/12TP is ready to head out Into The Great Wide Open.

The original hardshell case is included, as well as the Certificate of Authenticity.

No Second Thoughts here - this one is worth grabbing before it's gone.  Any Rickenbacker 12-string electric is fantastic but this 660/12TP is really Something Else.  The last time we had one here was about a decade ago.  We just took it in and have a feeling it won't be here long.   There's still Room At The Top for it in your collection.
