The Roland CR78, released in 1978, was the first drum machine equipped with a microprocessor, allowing users to create, save, and replay their own patterns. It features 14 analog sounds (bass drum, snare, hi-hat, congas, etc.), 17 preset rhythms, and step-by-step programming. It became a defining instrument of the new wave era thanks to artists such as Phil Collins, Blondie, and Tears for Fears, and has since become a highly sought-after cult classic among collectors.
