Up for sale is an exceptional and iconic 1960s Ludwig 3-piece shell pack in the legendary, holy-grail Black Oyster Pearl finish—the quintessential "Ringo Starr" configuration in classic Downbeat / Hollywood player dimensions (20/13/16).

Handcrafted in Ludwig’s historic Damen Avenue factory in Chicago, IL, these drums feature the classic 3-ply shells with solid maple reinforcement rings. They deliver the unmistakable vintage Ludwig sound: fat, woody, deeply resonant, and warm with an effortless low-end punch that mics up beautifully both live and in the studio.

Shell Dimensions (Diameter x Depth):

• Bass Drum: 20" x 14" (Includes original fold-out curved spur legs and rail consolette tom mount)
• Rack Tom: 13" x 9" (Includes original mounting clip and white/baseball-bat/round felt internal muffler)
• Floor Tom: 16" x 16" (Includes original 3x floor tom legs and internal muffler)

Condition & Vintage Details:

• Wrap: The original Black Oyster Pearl wrap is in beautiful condition throughout. Seams are tight and flat, the patterning is rich with plenty of contrasting dark greys and creamy oyster streaks, and there is no significant fading, cracking, or lifting.
• Shells & Bearing Edges: Interiors and reinforcement rings are tight, intact, and original. Edges are smooth, true, and seat modern heads easily, tuning up across a wide range.
• Keystone Badges: All Chicago Keystone badges are firmly attached with serial numbers dating firmly to the 1960s.
• Hardware: Classic Ludwig nickel/chrome hardware—including standard triple-flanged hoops, classic lugs, and brackets—is clean and fully operational with minimal, age-appropriate cosmetic patina.
• Originality: Clean and well-preserved with no extra holes or unoriginal modifications.
