This bass is a modern reimagining of the classic Spector sound and feel of the 1980s — an era that helped define the unmistakable Spector character and became associated with legendary players such as Doug Wimbish, Dave Fowler, and many others.
Spector absolutely nailed the idea behind the Euro Classic series: bringing back the spirit of those iconic instruments while building a bass that feels completely at home on a modern stage or in the studio. It genuinely takes you straight back to that classic era — which is exactly why I bought it in the first place.
One of the things I particularly love about this model is the pickup configuration, which recalls Spector's early five-string NS basses. There is something wonderfully old-school about it, while the instrument itself remains an incredibly capable and versatile modern bass.
The bass itself is simply a fantastic instrument. Out of curiosity, however, I decided to experiment with the electronics and replaced the original active EMG BTS system with a very modern boutique preamp made by Gemitronix, a Hungarian electronics manufacturer. Despite being a contemporary design, its character is strongly reminiscent of the legendary Haz-Lab electronics associated with classic Spectors.
I originally intended it as an experiment — but I ended up liking the Gemitronix system even more than the original electronics, so it stayed in the bass. It gives the instrument an incredibly lively, musical character and has been an absolute pleasure to play both on stage and in the studio.
This particular Solid Red finish with gold hardware has since been discontinued, making it an increasingly hard-to-find version of the Euro Classic 5. The combination looks absolutely stunning in person and perfectly suits the old-school Spector character of the instrument.
The bass is in excellent overall condition, with only two tiny cosmetic imperfections, approximately 1–2 mm in size, both of which are clearly shown in the photographs. They are purely cosmetic and have absolutely no effect on the playability or performance of the instrument.
The bass will be carefully packed and shipped in a non-Spector branded hard case, which is included with the purchase. Please note that this is not an original Spector case, but it will provide solid protection for the instrument during shipping.
A seriously special five-string with classic Spector DNA, modern boutique electronics, and a discontinued red-and-gold look that you simply don't see every day.
