Terry Bozzio's influence on modern drumming is immense!

Terry Bozzio redefined the drum set, transforming it into a fully melodic, orchestral instrument. He achieved legendary status in the 1970s by conquering Frank Zappa's notoriously unplayable "The Black Page".  His fierce technicality blended with deep groove and intense musicality pushed his band Missing Persons into the New Wave mainstream and famously anchored Jeff Beck’s the powerhouse trio. His pioneering use of melodic ostinatos and tuned percussion expanded the boundaries of drum design, tuning, and acoustic engineering. His Melodic Drumming & the Ostinato and Solo Drums instructional videos inspired generations of drummers, demonstrating that the musical possibilities of a drum set are endless.

Terry Bozzio's Mapex - U.S. Maple 13-Piece Kit - Black Stained Lacquer/Black Hardware (Kit #2)

Terry joined forces with the Mapex Drum Company in the early 1990s through 1995. This Mapex U.S. Maple set is one of two almost identical custom sets built for Terry during his tenure endorsing Mapex Drums. One set was finished in a solid "Piano Black" lacquer, and this set was finished in "Transparent Black" lacquer. Both sets were custom built specifically for Terry by renown custom drum builder Sam Bacco. At the time Mapex was still establishing themselves as a professional quality drum line. Terry required a higher quality drum than they were able to provide at the time so they enlisted Sam Bacco to create the drums to Terry's standards.

According to Terry Bozzio, "The sets were built in the Gibson owned Slingerland factory. They started with timbre matched, custom Keller maple shells with graduated ply thickness'. Then Sam (Bacco) cut custom bearing edges and had Pat Foley apply the finishes. They added Mapex's top line hardware with a heavy black powder coated finish. These drums sound great! The only thing "Mapex" about them is the hardware! I used them on many solo performances in the U.S., Europe, Canada and on tour with "Polytown" w/David Torn & Mick Karn".

The snare drum included with the set is Terry's extremely limited edition Signature Model Black Aluminum 14x5" snare. Only 100 of these drums were ever made. These snares are prized amongst collectors. Terry's own personal snare would be considered a "holy grail" drum.

The drums show some dust and cosmetic scuffs in the shell finishes and chips in the powder coated hardware from their years on the road with Terry. The drums are in 100% functional condition with no other notable issues.

A full case of Terry's drum hardware is included with the set at no charge. There are a lot of pieces but it is not complete set of hardware for the full drum set. Due to the high number of pieces we are not able to itemize each piece. Consider the hardware a free add on.
