The Dynaudio Core 7 is a 2-way active reference monitor for recording, mixing and mastering rooms, broadcast trucks, dub stages and immersive mix rooms. A 7-inch MSP mid/woofer and a 28 mm Esotar Pro soft-dome tweeter with a Hexis inner dome each have their own Pascal Class D amplifier, 500 W and 150 W. The Core 7 reaches 118 dB in half space and covers 40 Hz to 27 kHz within 3 dB, and a 32 mm front baffle keeps the cabinet stiff and inert.

Tuning to the Room

Switches on the rear panel set the DSP for where the Core 7 sits. Position 1 chooses Anechoic, Desk or Soffit, Position 2 corrects the bass for a wall or corner within 50 cm, and the Sound Balance switch tilts the whole response by 1.5 dB at each end toward Bright or Dark while keeping the phase between the drivers intact. A Bass Extension switch adds an 80 Hz high-pass filter with time alignment for use with a Core Sub or Core Sub Compact.

Levels and Placement

A four-position switch matches the analog input to the maximum output of your interface or console, from 0 to +24 dBu. A second switch sets the level a -20 dBFS signal produces at 1 m (85, 91, 96 or 101 dB), so every Core speaker in a room can share one calibrated reference. On the AES3 input the Core 7 runs at the incoming sample rate with no sample-rate conversion and locks to the AES clock or to an external word clock.

Analog signals are converted at 24 bits and processed at 192 kHz in 64-bit DSP. The cabinet has indentations on all four sides, so the Core 7 can stand upright, lie on its side or run inverted with the woofer on top. Dynaudio's Core Mounting Bracket (Type 1) holds it in surround and immersive layouts.
