Dynaudio Core 5 2-Way Active Studio Monitor (Dark Grey)

The Dynaudio Core 5 is the smallest speaker in Dynaudio's Core range of professional reference monitors, a 2-way active nearfield design for small control rooms, edit suites, OB trucks and immersive rooms that need many speakers in one space. Each cabinet carries a 5-inch MSP woofer and a 28 mm Cerotar Pro soft-dome tweeter with a Hexis inner dome, each driven by its own 280 W Pascal Class D amplifier. It reaches 110 dB in half space and takes both analog XLR and AES3 digital signals.

Tuning to the Room

Switches on the rear panel set the DSP for where the Core 5 sits. Position 1 chooses Anechoic, Desk or Soffit, Position 2 corrects the bass for a wall or corner within 50 cm, and the Sound Balance switch tilts the whole response by 1.5 dB at each end toward Bright or Dark while keeping the phase between the drivers intact. A Bass Extension switch adds an 80 Hz high-pass filter with time alignment for use with a Core Sub or Core Sub Compact.

Levels and Placement

A four-position switch matches the analog input to the maximum output of your interface or console, from 0 to +24 dBu. A second switch sets the level a -20 dBFS signal produces at 1 m (79, 85, 91 or 96 dB), so every Core speaker in a room can share one calibrated reference. On the AES3 input the Core 5 runs at the incoming sample rate with no sample-rate conversion and locks to the AES clock or to an external word clock.

Indentations in the cabinet locate the Core 5 on other Core speakers and subwoofers. It can stand on a desk or stand, hang vertically or horizontally from Dynaudio's Core Mounting Bracket (Type 2), or run inverted with the woofer above the tweeter.
