ddrum Carmine Appice 15" Shade Cymbal – Traditional 2009
Developed by legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice, the Shade is a specialty effects cymbal featuring a distinctive, steeply sloping profile reminiscent of a lampshade. Unlike a conventional crash or China cymbal, the Shade was designed to produce a unique, explosive accent with a combination of splash-like attack and China-like character.
Appice had been experimenting with the Shade concept long before this ddrum version appeared. During a 2001 drum clinic, he explained how he first encountered the unusual cymbal design and subsequently tried to help bring it to a wider audience.
In 2008, Appice joined ddrum. In 2009 the company introduced his signature Shade cymbal, along with several signature drum products. The cymbal has been long since discontinued.
