You're looking at undoubtedly one of the most beautiful examples of the comparatively rare 'Blue Boy' finished Rickenbacker 4003 basses. 'Blue Boy' was the European export finish colour for the year 2004. I doubt you'll find many other Blue Boys in such immaculate, original and unmolested overall condition. It is absolutely like buying a brand new bass!

I bought it new in May 2004 from 'The Bass Cellar' shop in London's Denmark Street; it was on display in the window and I fell in love instantly! I still have the original sales receipt. I have only ever played ONE gig with the bass. It was manufactured in 2003. It's currently fitted with D'Addario EXL180s. It comes complete with its original Rickenbacker hard shell case, which is also in mint condition. It comes with ALL its original paperwork, including case key, handbook, polishing cloth, brochure etc. I had it lightly serviced and checked-over in April 2016 by RickySounds; again, I have the invoice. It weighs 9.4lbs. The serial number is (03) 32916.

Despite its immaculate condition, please note that the bridge assembly has suffered from some pitting, which I've tried my best to capture in the photo of the bridge. I understand this is not an uncommon trait in Rickys of a certain age. I've read online that certain Blue Boys have suffered some age-related 'yellowing' of the original finish; I can honestly say that I don't think this has happened on this one and to me, it looks as blue as the day I bought it, though at 23 years of age it's no longer a 'boy'! To be fair, it's had an extremely easy life and has really been more of an ornament than anything else. I do pick it up and play it occasionally, but never 'in anger', as it were. 

The main reason I've decided to put it up for sale is that I just don't play it very much; I bought it originally simply to 'own a Ricky' and to add it to my collection.

I hope the photos depict the bass well enough for you to make a decision, but please do ask me if you require any more detailed photos or information in general - I'm very happy to answer your questions. I suspect that no two Rickys sound the same, and I'd describe the sound on this one as having the classic Ricky 'clang' but perhaps combined with a more rounded and warmer lower bass, coupled with something of a 'nasal' mid-range tone.
