Wal Custom Bass 1981 - Black

The 1981 Wal Custom PB 1532 is an exceptionally rare and sought-after instrument. It represents a pivotal moment in the British brand’s transformation, as the company moved away from the old Pro series. Details and specifications: Historical context: The ‘PB’ designation in the model number referred to the Pro series. In 1981, as this line was being phased out, a series of models was created with specifications fully matching the new Custom basses, yet retaining the original serial numbers from the Pro series. Body: Classic Mark I shape, typically made from a mahogany core with unique, exotic veneers. Unlike earlier Pro models, it no longer featured a large black pickguard. Electronics: These early ‘Customs’ were equipped with highly regarded pickups and highly sophisticated, unique active preamp circuits. Neck: Laminated wood (maple, hard Amazonian woods) with a rosewood or ebony fingerboard. Collector’s availability: Instruments from this vintage are highly prized for their handcrafted construction, legendary warm yet aggressive tone, and status as a vintage classic. J
