*** Inevitably a rare instrument, dated as made in 1983, during a production period of about 10 years, by specialist instrument maker, so naturally original instrument numbers will have been limited. Nevertheless there have been a few sale listing in recent times, from as far afield as California, indicating a wide coverage & popularity of the instruments at the time, and a level of respect for the maker.
*** Beautifully bound & inlayed Sitka Spruce top, and Rosewood back & sides, with inlayed side, centre back and end stripes, and headstock inlays. Ebony fingerboard has been re-fretted elsewhere, plus replacement Bone Nut and tailpiece has been replaced, also elsewhere, understood to be an Ashbury unit supplied by Hobgoblin Music.
*** The Cittern has a 38mm. nut width, and 585mm./23" Scale, just half an inch shorter than the standard scale adopted by Fylde for their Citterns, over the years. Not knowing the previous tuning kept on this particular instrument, and amongst the many tuning options you read about, I have adopted the GDGDG tuning in which Fylde Citterns are supplied, unless an alternative tuning is requested.
*** Various scratches will be seen in the photos, but are not overall detrimental for a near 40 year old instrument. Overhaul since arrival here includes truss rod adjustment, addition of glued-on fine Maple veneer fillet to raise the nut a tad, and allow correct re-adjustment of nut slot depths, similarly addition of 2mm. Ebony veneer to base of floating bridge to give a correct action height, and finally dressing the fret-ends, prior to re-stringing.
*** Final set-up tweaks have been completed, now that the cittern has settled following overhaul, with 12th. fret action at a correct 2.25mm. to 2.75mm.
*** New set of Eagle Puretone Cittern strings fitted, gauges 12/12, 16/16, 24W/24W, 34W/34W, & 42W/42W Loop End Nickel, from the indispensable Eagle Music in Huddersfield, and tuned as above.
*** Good condition, quite recently purchased TGI soft/pod case included, as shown in photos.
*** No useable YouTube clip of a Gerald Adams Cittern found, so I have embedded a clip on a Fylde Cittern using the chosen GDGDG tuning & entitled "Prospect Hill 1 (The Fylde Cittern with Unison Strings) - BmoreBusker". On my Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, additional link 1 is another Fylde Cittern, both plugged in & unplugged, tuning not indicated, and finally link 2 is back to same instrument as the embedded demo, but with Octave Stringing.
*** Additional Description Details & links available on the Vintage & Traditional Guitars Website.....please ensure that you check the full description carefully. Additional photos also available on request.
