Vintage ex-BBC Glensound MX6 six-channel mixer, from BBC London OBs, marked S8/159. Main console only - the matching 6-channel sidecar is being sold separately.
Six 936c mic channels with transformer-balanced mic inputs, phantom power, phase reverse and a 45dB pad. Proper, musical EQ on each channel: treble, semi-parametric mid and a Pultec-type bottom end, where the filter slopes the bass down from 20 or 220Hz (7 positions between) and the boost then pushes it up, creating a hole in the lower mid. Plenty of gain for ribbon mics.
Channel, mix and Aux 1 levels are on P&G conductive plastic linear faders. Aux 2 and the Clean Feed outputs are on rotary pots. Two aux sends per channel (labelled misc 1 and 2), switchable between pre-EQ, pre-fader and post-fader.
Each channel has two insert points on bantam jacks, one pre-fader and one post-fader. They work as direct outs, so it makes a fantastic-sounding front end for a DAW.
The master bus has a built-in compressor that can be bypassed. Left and right can be linked or unlinked, release is switchable fast/slow and threshold is switchable +4/-4. The desk outputs left, right and mono at the same time on male XLRs - the BBC didn't want external kit plugged in or out. You can also patch straight into the compressor via bantam jacks and use it on its own. To the right of the master channel there is metering, tape sends and a cue bus with headphone output, plus plenty of redundant telephone gubbins.
The XLR headphone outputs are a split feed (wiring diagram via Canford), so you can plug into a regular GPO patchbay to check signals. I seem to recall the main headphone socket is B gauge but normally wired.
A manual in PDF and print will be supplied. All channels work properly and there are no crackly pots or faders. It is solidly built, as most BBC kit is, and designed to last. It could do with a clean. I used all the input channels, the inserts on them, the outputs and the limiters a few months ago.
Collection in Bristol is welcome and I'm happy to demonstrate it. I can ship it carefully packed, with a quote on request.
