A highly desirable and long-discontinued Rickenbacker C Series bass, this 2006 4001C64 was designed as a faithful recreation of the company's celebrated early-1960s 4001S-style instrument. Finished in classic Fireglo, the 4001C64 combines Rickenbacker's signature neck-through construction with the clean, understated appointments associated with its early export-style basses. The unbound body and fingerboard, dot inlays, vintage-style tuning machines, and period-inspired hardware give the C64 a distinctly different character from the more ornate standard 4001 and 4003 models. Electronics are equally important to the C64's vintage character. A toaster-style neck pickup is paired with Rickenbacker's distinctive horseshoe-style bridge pickup assembly, providing the articulate attack, clarity, sustain, and upper-midrange presence that helped make early Rickenbacker basses so recognizable. The C Series represented Rickenbacker's particularly detail-oriented approach to recreating instruments from its most historically significant period. Now discontinued, the 4001C64 has become increasingly desirable among collectors and players looking for an early-'60s-style Rickenbacker with factory vintage specifications. This 2006 example is finished in iconic Fireglo and includes its original hardshell case.
