About this listing
The Reverend Kingbolt HH in Ohana Blue is a lightweight double cutaway electric guitar that pairs Reverend's signature retro/modern body styling with a smooth Wilkinson tremolo, a smart control layout, and the company's newly developed Steelhead humbucking pickups. This is far more than the typical HH guitar. The Kingbolt HH moves across rock, blues, funk, indie, and country with ease.
Reverend guitars have long been admired for their original designs and quality craftsmanship. Founded in the late 1990s by Joe Naylor, the company has earned a loyal following among enthusiasts and working professionals alike. With distinctive shapes, pickups, and control layouts, Reverend instruments stand apart from the usual guitar clones and are respected for their originality. Our own history with Reverend goes back to our trusty 2004 Rumblefish bass, a reliable companion through countless gigs.
For many years every Reverend guitar was a bolt-on, and the Kingbolt carries that lineage forward with a nicely finished 6-bolt roasted maple neck, Reverend Pin-Lock locking tuners, and a triple string tree. We measured the neck at roughly .830" at the first fret and .880" at the 12th. Reverend calls it a "Medium Oval," and it sits comfortably in the range of the slim C profile found on American Fenders and similar guitars. It is topped with a dark rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius and cleanly dressed medium jumbo frets.
The Steelhead pickups are a recent Reverend innovation and, as the name suggests, feature large steel pole pieces. Each Steelhead humbucker combines Alnico V and ceramic magnets, blending Alnico warmth with ceramic clarity and attack. The combination works especially well in the neck position, where the ceramic magnet adds definition and keeps the wound strings from sounding muddy. With their medium output, the Steelhead pickups interact beautifully with pedals, delivering plenty of sparkle, complexity, and sensitivity to your picking style.
Alongside the standard volume and tone controls, Reverend's Bass Contour control is a standout feature. Under the hood it is a simple high-pass filter, but the results are shockingly good. The sweep is gradual and musical, and the sound never feels weaker, just leaner and more defined. With humbuckers, it is far more useful than a typical coil split, and if neck humbuckers usually sound too thick to you, the Bass Contour will fix that. For an HH guitar, it opens up a world of funky, snappy tones that would otherwise be out of reach. The wiring is tidy throughout, with full-size Alpha pots, film capacitors, and shielding paint.
The Kingbolt HH is classic Reverend, and its retro/modern styling looks right at home on any stage. With the new Steelhead pickups and a smart control set, it is a guitar you can take to any gig with confidence.
