Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome . You are looking at an older 1st generation 1940's era RCA 74B "Junior Velocity" model ribbon microphone that comes with it's original umber brown paint scheme and original chrome accessories. This is one of the most iconic and well known RCA ribbon mics ever made and was sold by RCA for about 20 years before being discontinued. The later 2nd gen 74B's came with the black painted body. I haven't had one of these to offer in quite some time now and while it's one of the nicest physical examples you could possibly wish for the mic has been tested and no longer works which is pretty typical for a stock mic of this age. It's 100% complete and as you can see from the pics the internal components are quite nice. Nothing missing. This mic comes with the period Atlas DS-7 model mic stand in which to display. More on that in a minute. I have to be honest that I do not know much about ribbon mic and I do not repair them but ENAK based out of New Jersey could replace the motor and ribbon and have this working again in no time at all for a very reasonable price. This would be an ideal candidate as well if you are looking for a solid studio ribbon mic. This 74B would have been used for basic broadcasting purposes back in the day. It was a rugged microphone and was used for both singing and broadcasting as it was intended. It's an all metal design that's appx 7 inches tall (with lower chrome swivel) X 2 1/2 inches wide X 2 inches deep and weighs about 2 pounds. The lower chrome swivel allows for a slight degree of tilt in any direction as needed and functions perfectly. It's in excellent physical and operational condition and comes with an Atlas AD-1 stand adapter that allows you to mount the mic to any desk or floor stand you happen to have though the Atlas stand is provided. The chrome front and rear screens on the 74B are in superb condition with zero dents, odors or pitting. All the screws on this mic are original. Even the inner components loom fantastic. The original ribbon is present though there is sag to it form old age. The paint lower body has just a few small paint chips but otherwise fantastic. The short cable appears to be original but there was a Switchcraft XLR connector attached at some point to allow the user to use any longer XLR cable of choice as needed. I'd rate the cosmetic condition of this 74B a true 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate much higher. It will make a fantastic display, prop or repair piece and would fit in nicely for any fine vintage mic collection. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a nice period Atlas piece (model DS-7) that really compliments this RCA mic. This early first generation DS-7 desk stand is made with a heavier cast iron base and dual chrome adjustable risers to get just the right height needed. This desk stand from the late 1940's is perfect for just about any screw on microphone or mic clip you can think of. Excellent for stability and peace of mind. This DS-7 has the two tier "waterfall" design that was quite popular in the late 1930 and 1940's. Very deco in nature and you just don't see too many of these early DS-7 stands around. This stand has just typical lite wear but very good overall. The top chrome riser is almost perfect while the lower riser shows a bit more wear. The chrome clutch mechanism works perfectly. The cast iron base has original dark grey paint that has just very lite discoloration and a few tiny scratches. The base even has the original felt pads and they are in great shape. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. Total dimensions of stand with mic is 15 inches high x 6 inches wide but can be raised up to 20 inches tall if needed. I'd rate the cosmetic condition of this stand a true 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
