The Ibanez Universe was another innovation resulting from the design input of Steve Vai during the time leading up to the release of his Passion And Warfare album. It was one of the first seven-string models offered in standard production.

The UV777P model in black finish with a mirror pickguard and pyramid inlays is not to be confused with the earlier 1990s models, the UV7 (black with green pickups), the UV7P (white), the UV77 (swirl finish), or the UV777 (green finish).
