First, the low D string kept slipping off the bridge. I had to file a deeper notch in it. Now the high D tuning peg is slipping. Not surprised since the banjo comes with cheap friction tuners. I will upgrade these with better ones tomorrow. That'll cost $100 minimum. Doesn't have a good tailpiece either. Otherwise not so bad, neck is nicely finished.

  • Nice banjo for the $$

I've had a few banjos over the years, a Saga - a Gold Tone and a Vega. The saga sits in the garage, the Gold Tone was sold - but his Gretsch is on par with the $800 Gold Tone, but with more "chi" - it doesn't feel as plastic and mass produced as the Gold Tone, but not quite as nice as a Vega at $1400! So for the price, what a sweet deal!
