Overview

Fender started the '60s strong introducing new models like the Jaguar and the Jazz Bass. The Stratocaster of 1960 changed little from the Strat of 1959. By this point almost all Strats have the slab Rosewood fingerboard, as well as the updated 3-ply pickguard. The neck continued to be made in a thin D-shaped profile.

Unique to this Year: Rosewood fingerboard and 3-ply celluloid nitrate on all guitars.

Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck with slab Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Bolt-on neck, dot inlays, 3 single-coil pickups, 3-way pickup selector

Finish Specifications: Sunburst was a standard finish for the '60 Stratocaster though custom and rare colors do become more common.
