Overview

The "Black Panel"-era Fender Champ, a small 5-watt guitar combo amp, was produced from 1964 - 1967 and has long been a beloved recording amplifier for both guitar and harmonica. A single 6V6 tube running in Class-A pushes an 8" speaker in the Champ Amp to its limits, producing a mammoth tone when mic'd up close. The Black Panel amps saw a couple electrical revisions before and after the CBS buyout, but by-and-large the Champ amps of this era produce an amazing sound thanks to their brilliant, simple circuit design.
