About this listing
I'm selling my last vintage AKG C414EB microphone. It has the coveted original brass-surround CK12 capsule. It comes with an original case and AKG SA18/3 mount. You probably know these are great mics on all kinds of sources - acoustic piano, drum overhead, percussion, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and of course vocals. This one is in very good physical condition. All patterns work, all switches too. It sounds great. I’ve owned it for over 20 years and taken good care of it. I’ve reached the point in my career where I’m not doing a lot of live recording, so I’m reducing my collection. If you're not aware, the original Telefunken ELAM 251 and AKG C12 and C24 tube mics used the same AKG capsule that is in this model. However, later versions of the 414 (the C414EB P48, C414B ULS, C414 XLS, etc.) use a newer version, which is cheaper and simpler to produce, but sounds nothing like this one. Don't be fooled by various recent AKG models - none of them hold a candle to this. It’s rich, and has a silky top end that is quite euphonic. And despite what makers will tell you, nobody's been able to reproduce this capsule since they were discontinued in the early 80’s. Also, when these mics were returned to AKG for service, they almost always replaced the original capsule with the newer version, so many 414s that look like this don't sound like it.The listed cost of shipping is for overnight delivery, and includes packing materials and full insurance. Local pickup is also appreciated.Overseas shipping is an option, but Reverb's system isn't sophisticated enough to offer appropriate rates for different countries. So if you would like it shipped out of the U.S., please drop me a line for a specific quote before purchasing.
