Video: Daniel Donato Teaches Jerry Reed-Style Double-Stops

Nashville guitarist Daniel Donato taught us his unique style of country hybrid picking a couple of weeks ago, and followed up with a deeper dive into some Jerry Garcia-style chromatic riffs. This week, he's back to teach us a lesson on something that he calls "sincerely, ultimately, aggressively, awesomely country"—the Jerry Reed-influenced double-stop.

"Jerry Reed was an absolute genius of music and a personality to the stars," Donato started, before zeroing in on two of the things Reed was best at: "his rhythms and his idea of playing two notes at once." Donato demonstrates with a lick he wrote himself as an homage to Reed, showcasing both the chromaticism and double-stop elements that made his playing so innovative.
