About this listing
This ’59 instrument is a 4-string electric guitar made by the Fender Electric Instrument Company, circa mid-late 1959 in Fullerton, California. This is a Precision Bass model. The bass features a solid 2-piece alder body with raw wood finish, 4-ply celluloid faux tortoise shell pickguard; aluminum pickguard shielding plate; 20 fret lacquered maple neck with screened “Fender” logo; Brazilian rosewood “slab” fingerboard with clay dot inlays and bone nut; one Fender Lace Sensor” split coil pickup with single column and tone control; nickel plated tuning machine; chrome plated bridge assembly with steel saddle pieces; chrome plated neck plate; replacement “chicken head” volume/tone knobs. This bass belong to my brother who passed away this last summer. He had purchased the bass in the late sixties or early seventies. He played music full-time with a Texas rock band for years putting hundreds of hours on this instrument and on severely recordings as well. I was told the bass once belong to the bassist for the Buck Owens band but have no way of proving that. Any bassist that has played this instruments immediately loves the neck. I am a guitarist myself so any bass neck to me seems giant. I will however guarantee that it is rock sold and as straight as you could possibly ask for. Condition wise, yes it is not original. The paint has been stripped off, I do not have the original pickups, and the pickguard is fairly scratched up. What I do have is a killer ’59 rock bass from Fender.Regarding the case, I have a retro ’63 case that I keep it in as well as the original 1959 case seen in the photos. I love fixing things and have work on re-glueing the fabric back in place and getting the ends all squared up and sealed, and re-glueing the wood. The ends are ready to have the leather covering installed. The case has a severe break in the middle between the top and bottom shells. I have not approached how to fix this and thought I’d wait on it until later down the road. I have however greatly improved it from the condition it was in. Please contact me with any questions about this instrument and I will do the best I can to answer.
